    MATURE ENTRY INTAKE FOR THE 2022-2023 ACADEMIC YEAR

    The University of Malawi is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for admission into its mature entry programmes for the 2022-2023 academic year.

    Minimum Entry Requirements for all applicants

    A Malawi School Certificate of Education or any equivalent O-Level qualification with at least 4 subjects passed with credit (6 subjects for some programmes) including ENGLISH LANGUAGE and other subjects specified in the table under point (d) below.

    a. A-Level or IGSCE qualifications with at least C grade in Geography, Mathematics and English plus any other three subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Computer Studies, Agriculture and Social Studies. However, depending on the strength of the A-Level they will be required to audit first year course. A-Level qualifications shall be interpreted as: A=5; B=4; C=3; D=2; E=1. or any related qualifications from a recognized institution of higher learning.

    d. Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Science

    4 subjects passed with credit at MSCE including 3 Science subjects and English and a recognized Diploma

    in Home Economics or related programmes such as Community Health, Nutrition, Family Studies, Early Childhood Development and Education.

    e. Bachelor of Science in Physics

    6 subjects passed with credit at MSCE (or its equivalent) including English, Mathematics, Physical Science, Physics, General Science and Chemistry and a Diploma from a

    recognized institution (with a minimum of a credit) and having Physics as a major.

    f. Bachelor of Science in Electronics

    6 subjects passed with credit at MSCE (or its equivalent) including English, Mathematics, Physical Science, Physics, General Science and Chemistry and a Diploma from a

    recognized institution (with a minimum of a credit) having Electronics or Electrical Engineering as a major.

    1. Entry into Year 1: Learners with MSCE, “O” level equivalent, IGCSE, GCE with six credits including Geography, Mathematics, English, Biology, Physics or Chemistry or General Science. IGCSE and GCE shall be interpreted as follows: A=1 or 2; B=3 or 4; C= 5 or 6; D=7; E, F, G=8.
    2. Entry into Year 2: A-Level with at least C grade in Physics, Biology, Geography, Chemistry and Mathematics. The learners will be required to audit first year Geology courses. A-Level qualifications shall be interpreted as: A=5; B=4; C=3; D=2; E=1.

    h. Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science (Honours)

    in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or any other quantitative bachelor’s degree with an average pass of at least 65% in mathematics subjects.

    i. Bachelor of Science

    Students with a diploma from the University of Malawi or from any other recognized institution shall be

    considered to start at 2 nd year as long as the content of the diploma course included at least first year college mathematics.

    j. Bachelor of Science

    considered to start at 2 nd year or later years of the programme on case by case basis considering the number of credits the candidates have accumulated as per the Malawi Qualifications Framework (MAQF) and UNIMA Qualifications Framework.

    1. Holders of Bachelor’s degree
    2. Those who have successfully completed 2 or more subjects (including financial mathematics) of the UK, US, Australian or South African actuarial boards.
    3. Holders of the Chartered Actuarial Analyst (CAA) qualification.
    4. Professionals holding the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification or who have completed at least the first level of the CFA program (with an average pass of at least 65% in mathematics subjects).
    1. Students with A-Level qualifications shall be required to have an aggregate of 6 points in the two principal subjects. A-Level qualifications shall be interpreted as: A=5; B=4; C=3; D=2; E=1.

    IV. FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCE

    a. Bachelor of Arts (Human Resource Management)

    4 credits including English at MSCE or its equivalent and Recognized Diploma in Management, Administration or Human Resource fields. Those with a recognized Bachelor’s degree would also be considered.

    b. Bachelor of Social Science in Law Enforcement Management and Leadership

    Candidates with the following

    qualifications shall be admitted into year two of study on mature entry basis: A two year Diploma from University of Malawi recognized institutions (with a minimum of a Credit), and having accumulated a minimum of 240 credit hours. The diploma should be in any of the following disciplines: Law, Security Studies, and any Law Enforcement related Studies. Candidates should

    also have an MSCE with at least four credits, including English, Biology, Physical Science/Physics & Chemistry and Mathematics. Candidates may be required to start from first year where necessary. In addition to the above requirements, candidates to be admitted on mature entry shall have

    a minimum of two years progressive experience with Government of Malawi recognized law enforcement agency.

    1. Entry into Year 2: Holders of University Certificate in Computer Science from the University of Malawi.
    2. Entry into Year 3: Holders of an Advanced Diploma in Computing or any related field from a recognized institution of higher learning with a pass of distinction or credit and an MSCE with at least four credits including Mathematics, Physics/Physical Science and English.
    1. Entry in Year 2: Learners with ‘MSCE with six credits’ or Equivalent and a relevant certificate or diploma in ECD will be considered to start in year two if they satisfy the required credits as stipulated in the UNIMA Qualifications Framework.
    2. Entry in Year 3: Learners with UNIMA diploma in ECD or similar qualification will be considered for entry in the third year.

    4 credits including English at MSCE or Equivalent and a diploma in Social Work or any relevant field such as Counselling, Community

    Development, Psychology, Education, Early Childhood Development, plus a minimum of 2 years work experience in a relevant field.

    1. 4 credits including English and Mathematics at MSCE or Equivalent and a diploma in a relevant field such as Social
    2. Those with any other bachelor’s degree and working in a psychology-related field will be considered.

Duly completed application forms together with proof of payment of a non-refundable application fee of K25, 000.00 for Malawian candidates and U$35 for international applicants should be sent to the same address.
