Get Your RI Real Estate License

Here is a list of five basic steps to guide you through the process of obtaining your Rhode Island real estate license:

STEP 1: Enroll in RI REALTORS® Sales Pre-license Course

The comprehensive 45-hour program from RI REALTORS® delivers the most current and accurate information to help you prepare for your real estate exam. Everything you need to know about the exam process in RI, including how to schedule and prepare for the exam, is covered within our sales pre-license class.

Classes typically meet two days a week for three hours, for a total of 15 sessions. The course can be completed in as little as a month and a half!

STEP 2: Schedule Your Exam

The Rhode Island examination is taken in two parts with PearsonVUE Testing Center. The two parts are National/General (ReRI-Sales-GE) and RI State Law (ReRI-Sales-ST). The cost for each is $50.00. You must score at least 70 on both exams. If you fail only one portion of the exam, you only need to retake the portion that was not passed within one (1) year. You must pay for each retake. Learn more about the examination process at the link below.

STEP 3: Take a Lead Paint Hazards Class

RI REALTORS® provides you with the options of a live 3-hour Lead Paint Hazards course or an on-demand eLearning course, based on your learning preference. Both are offered at a discount to RI REALTOR® past and current pre-licensing students.

STEP 4: Find a Real Estate Broker

Finding a Real Estate broker is a crucial step in the licensing process. Learn the questions you should be asking and how to find the best fit for your career goals.

Not sure where to start? Students in our program are provided with a list of brokers who are members of the RI Association of REALTORS® and are actively seeking new licensees.

STEP 5: Complete the Application

All RI real estate professionals are licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation (DBR). An application signed by the applicant and principal broker where you will hang your real estate license is required and must include the following requirements.
